X-Plore is run by a team of dedicated volunteers (the trustees) but it does pay for professional and qualified staff and youth-centered venues for our youth groups.
These help us to ensure we provide:
safe and supportive groups that encourage the development of positive identities and wellbeing
content that is specifically relevant to LGBT young people's needs
effective (and cost effective) recording, reporting, and supervisory structures
Our administration costs are therefore minimal and almost all of the funds we recieve go directly towards providing the youth groups.
Do you believe that young people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender deserve the same opportunities as everyone else to:
be themselves without fear of harrassment or discrimination;
meet other young people who can understand their problems;
learn how to stay safe and healthy in their journey to adulthood?
We need your support!
We recieve no statutory funding and rely on generating income through applying for grants, fundraising activities and individual donations via Virgin Money Giving.
Help us Raise our Profile
The more young people in Devon who know about us, the better. You can help by following us on social media and sharing occasional posts or events. If you are part of a local youth organisation or school we can also send you a poster and any other information you may want.
We are particularly keen to encourage regular, direct contributions and in 2017 launched a #250challenge. We also welcome one off donations. To donate, please click on the Virgin Money Giving logo at the top of this page. Alternatively, if your employer runs GAYE, consider giving to X-plore?
Volunteer your Time
If you are interested in voluntary youth work, please get in touch with us with a brief summary of why you would like to volunteer and we will get back to you.
NB: volunteers will undergo a DBS check and training to work in our groups. Session volunteers will be supervised by our delivery partner Space.
We are also open to offers of, for example, one-off workshops, sharing experience and skills (particularly from within the LGBT community), or other life-enhancing and fun activities. Please bear in mind that our take-up of these always depends on how well it may fit the needs or wishes of our group(s) at the time.
Help Run the Charity
We would like more trustee to join us. If you are committed to LGBT equality, care about the wellbeing of LGBT young people, and would like to use your experience, skills and time for their benefit, become a trustee!
Our trustees are very 'hands on'. In particular we would like to hear from individuals with skills in fundraising, administration or marketing. It is helpful if you have good ICT capabilities. The position may be subject to DBS check. If you are interested, please contact us to find out more.
